A major benefit of having a document camera would be the versatility and ease of use; instead of having to constantly populate the whiteboard with ideas only to erase them for each new subject or idea or spend hours of prep time making endless powerpoint slides, I could easily and quickly jump between ideas and subjects with a minimum of academic downtime. Document cameras do two things for a class: reduce academic dead time and help each student have a clear visual representation of whatever concept is being built. By allowing me to project my own paper(s) onto the whiteboard space, a document camera helps students have a consistent view of what’s being taught—especially for those who have a hard time reading the dry erase markings on the whiteboard. This will be especially useful for mathematics and literacy, because I can more easily and quickly model how to use ideas and supporting evidence to solve equations, crafting sentences, and using facts or data to support our ideas (modeling how to show work in math or the logical chain behind an idea or opinion in writing an essay).
