The materials that I selected for my classroom were strategically chosen to promote comfort in reading. Many of my scholars struggle in the area of literacy and comprehension because they are so engaged in screens and videos (I know my kids are)! I want to help make scholars aware of the importance of opening a book (or kindle) and how exciting reading can really be! By providing supplemental reading material and flexible seating you are not only helping expose my scholars to different material; You are making the environment in which my scholars are learning and reading more welcoming and inviting. This year we will be combining social studies and ELA by delving into a literacy block that focuses primarily on human rights. Every book on this list will supplement the curriculum. The faux fur saucer chair and the starry lights will be critical in providing a warm and inviting ambiance for my anxious readers.
