Creating a mindfulness corner in my classroom will allow my students to take well deserved brain breaks throughout their school day. In addition to academics and Social Emotional Learning, many of my students also attend Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Hearing Impaired Therapy, Vision Therapy and Adaptive P.E. This can be both overwhelming and exhausting for my students. By donating the supplies to help create our Sensory Island, including inflatable chairs, a Peapod lounger, and rug, you will be assisting my students in increasing focus, attention, reduce anxiety as well as helping them to make positive gains on their academic and social/emotional skills. This will also help to create a positive and safe learning environment that naturally fosters growth. My students sometime feel pressure when they are unable to keep up academically, socially, or even physically with their same aged peers. Providing an area for them to deescalate from those pressures will also help them to reset and recharge as well as increase their confidence and self-esteem throughout the day.
