Starting into a new school year, it's important to set up a community that feels comfortable, collaborative, and conducive to learning. As I've been preparing to welcome students into the class, I've felt that some important things were missing: classroom carpets. In order to create the learning environment that my students deserve and need to succeed, we need carpets that students can gather on during morning meetings, daily instruction, and group discussions. Having a place to gather in a circle with their peers increases community, respect, and collaboration. Classroom carpets, individual whiteboards, and book bin organizers help me cultivate a space where students can be autonomous in their learning and strive for excellence together as a class.
