Our leveled reading library will help in differentiated teaching of reading skills to kindergarten students. These books will help identify the reading proficiency of each student, provide graded pathways to build on their existing knowledge, expose them to a diverse range of stories and concepts, and afford growth into more advanced challenges. The confidence and intellectual growth fostered by these books will establish a foundation for a lifetime of learning. The classroom library will function as one of the central learning resources in our classroom. The books from this resource will be used to assess learning proficiency early in the school year. Over the course of the year students will build on their proficiency with books that challenge them -- they'll be using them as part of structured classroom activities, especially during guided reading and independent reading times, and accessing them during choice time. The diversity of books sought will ensure that there that there are broad choices of books to cater to the individual interests and passions of this diverse classroom.
