Students will hone their skills as future scientists by having tools that are calibrated and set for them to practice scientific techniques. Students will learn how to measure the mass of different objects while learning the significance of place value and the decimal system. Precision, dexterity, and delicate technique will also be developed learning to use a triple beam balance. Students will also compare and contrast the accuracy of a triple beam balance versus an electronic scale. Although triple beam balances are directly used for scientific inquiry, the information recorded is utilized to connect science to math, history, writing, and the arts. The data gathered is used to write, explain, justify, and conclude what was stated in the hypothesis. Often times, the data is also displayed in graphic or chart form.
