Student need access to grade level literature. In order to become proficient readers, students need to read on a daily and continuous basis. In order to achieve this goal, students need engaging literature. These students also need a comfortable and cozy space in which to read these books. A colorful and comfy carpet will provide a common reading space for students. Students will be more inclined to read if they have a comfortable space in which to do so. It will also provide a common meeting space in which students will be taught reading foundational skills, engage in morning meeting activities, complete literacy workstation activities, and partner reading activities with classmates.
