What I need is very simple: the supplies that never come with a new classroom. I am a first year teacher supporting a family and don't have the money to invest in the classroom supplies that my kids need to start the year off right. I cannot afford to give these kids what they need to succeed on my own. I won't be able to afford all of these supplies in one go and it will take me at least until half way into the school year to get this together. These supplies will help my students create posters and charts that give them a tactile understanding of the pieces that they will be reading. For example, a mock movie poster for an excerpt of "Cujo" for our unit on suspense narratives. Seriously, "Cujo" is part of our curriculum. Education is awesome. To begin the year we will be using items such as the "better than paper" rolls to spruce up our bulletin boards and make our classroom not look so sparse. I'll also be using things like the dry erase markers to write on the white board, something essential to teaching. Thank you for considering my project. It means a lot to have the chance to give these kids what they need from day 1.
