Providing my students with flexible seating will benefit their overall learning experience in the classroom. Flexible seating promotes choice, collaboration and community, comfort, motivation, and engagement in learning. As a Language Arts teacher, I aspire to find new ways to build upon my students' interests, develop their sense of self and belonging to a classroom community, and connect them to stories and skills which propel their abilities in reading and all subjects. Creating a learning space that students share ownership of has created a level of classroom community and accountability that positively impacts academic success and the development of positive character traits in my students. The floor seats and cushions would contribute to the choices I could offer my students for flexible seating options in the classroom. These seats would allow for the convenience of movement when working independently or in groups, are practical in size for a classroom needing of every inch for learning, and motivating for students who learn better when able to stretch and move about the classroom. Transforming the classroom into a space of interest, supportive of various learning styles and preferences is what flexible seating can do for my students.
