Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make a seating choice that works best for them. Currently, in my classroom, students are allowed to sit at tables or on the floor with clipboards. I notice that when I give students the ability to choose their space, they are much more engaged and excited about the task at hand. By incorporating more flexible seating into my classroom, I am confident that this will create even more engaged learners and increase their academic success. Along with flexible seating, I have included many hands-on literacy and math games in my project. Kindergarten students love to learn hands-on rather than pencil and paper. My students are noticeably more engaged and focused on their work when they are given a choice of seating and hands-on opportunities! During independent work time, students will be able to have the choice to work in the flexible chairs. These chairs and bean bags will also be a part of our reading corner for students to utilize during read to self time. These seating choices will help foster independent learners. The hands-on activities and games will be used during literacy and math center choices. Students will have the opportunity to work on these activities while collaborating with their classmates. Hands-on activities like the ones in this project engage students and make learning more FUN! I need your support to help make this flexible and hands-on learning environment a reality!
