We fall into the trap of thinking learning is best done inside the four walls of our classrooms. Breaking up the monotony of the day, getting the students outside and letting them burn off some energy and have some fun will have a positive impact on school community. My administrators are creating an outdoor cafe style space for students to enjoy lunch, play games, and make friends. We already have some picnic tables, corn hole boards, connect 4. We want to make this space simply about having fun and fostering a positive school community. There is so much benefit to having students play games like Giant Timber. The thinking and learning needed for good strategy, following rules and being a good loser (and winner) are just a few of the positive takeaways.
