My students have never had the opportunity to read a book in Spanish! These books are excellent resources for using comprehensible input to maximize student engagement. When a language learner is able to understand a story and relate to the characters and events in that story, minds open. I am going to use these books to model reading strategies, build student confidence in the target language, and encourage independent reading. For example, after reading a novel my students show comprehension using a strategy called,"Game of Quotes" where the students look in the text to complete an open-ended statements. Having quality books for every student makes learning meaningful and fun. In addition to using the books for whole group instruction, I am looking forward to building a library of quality literature for my students so they can enjoy FVR (Free Voluntary Reading).
