These materials will make a difference in a couple of ways. A goal is teaching good organization and personal responsibility. Part of the products requested are for organizing student work and providing them a personal space in the classroom to house their workbooks, work and projects. Many students do not come prepared to class with essential materials and pencils are required for math in my classroom because it allows us to properly correct miscalculations and process errors. On average we go through over 500 pencils per year. Making thinking visible is critical in helping to identify root causes in mathematical error. The white boards and dry erase covers allow students to maximize resources and work collaboratively in problem solving. It is quick and easy to move from problem to problem and show work. When students hold it over their head it builds pride/confidence in math skills and provides time for processing and feedback from classmates.
