My students struggle with life skills, most students with intellectual disabilities and autism struggle to hold down a job when they get older. Unfortunately, for my students with intellectual disabilities, they sometimes find work on the street to make money. I need to teach my students the skills they need to hold down a real job when they are older. We have a school store that the students work shifts in. In the store, they learn customer service skills, stocking, and cash register skills. The iPad will expand the skill areas that I can teach my students. They will work inventory with the iPad, as well as use it as a more updated cash register. My students will be able to use it as a time clock to practice punching in and out. Some of these skills may seem mundane to you, but my students do not possess any of the skills they would need for a job. They need to be taught these skills to have a successful life. Most of my students stay in school until they are 22 years old, after they are 18 most of their day consists of vocational work. For them to get the most out of the vocational work, the work must mirror what a job would look like now. All of our supplies are so old, an iPad is a current technology; it is something that they may find similar at a job today.
