These mentor texts are the building blocks for establishing our classroom community. The life lessons learned in these books are connectable and identifiable for children in third grade. Rich discussions can be curated from these quality pieces of literature, and anchor charts created for reference all year. I’ve researched these titles as part of creating a classroom with a growth mindset. We will read aloud a new book each day to start off the month of September and incorporate that story into our reading mini-lesson, our character education curriculum, and our classroom morning meeting. This wide selection of topics will lend itself nicely to giving each student that one particular story that will be their spark.
