I began The Lightning Thief as a read aloud in my 6th grade ELA class but my students have been clamoring for copies of their own. Their excitement about this book is the spark that could ignite a life-long love for reading. The Lightning Thief is the first in an exciting series that can capture and keep the interest of my students for years to come. During our novel study, students will also be researching Greek mythology and learning Greek and Latin root words. The novel will help us to recognize the prevalence of Greek influence in modern society by providing a contemporary setting.
