My kindergarten students come to me with a wide range of abilities from students who have limited experience hearing stories read out loud to students who are reading on their own independently. My student's love to hear stories from author studies, thematic units, non-fiction selections, as well as their own interests. We live in a suburban town with a population around 350 students. Our school budget has been frozen for the past three years and requests for additional titles to classroom libraries, fixing broken equipment, etc. have been put on hold. Over the past 10 years that I have been teaching kindergarten, I have collected several books on tape which my students love to listen to over and over again. It is difficult to find a tape player that will last for an extended period of time...I use my listening center every day!
