Being able to interact and respond with engaging text provides our students, particularly our English language learners, with opportunities to dive deep into the many perspectives literacy offers. Scholastic magazines provide current and relevant topics that provide a rich variety of genres that students eagerly read and share. Students will use text marking strategies such as underlining and circling essential evidence that will help them analyze the text. They will have an opportunity to stop and jot their critical thinking during their reading that they can then share with their peers in literacy discussions. Students will have the opportunity to keep and take home the text to revisit their thinking with family and in turn, reinforce comprehension retention and language acquisition.
