Thank you for checking out my Donors Choose project! These books are intentionally hand-selected for my IEP caseload as they will gauge their interest and grow their reading level so they can access grade-level content across all subjects. We measure reading growth using NWEA MAP assessment in English Language Arts. Based on that assessment, many of my students are reading between a 4th and 6th grade level while attending high school. This not only makes mastering their English standards difficult, but also their History, Math, and Science courses as they struggle with reading grade-level content. Independent reading has been proven to improve reading levels across all students, and we are fortunate enough to have built-in independent reading time within our schedules. At this moment, we don't have enough books to support all students, especially those on my caseload who are reading at a lower level than most of their peers. My kids need these books as they will both gauge their interest in independent reading while simultaneously growing their reading level while placing them in their least-restrictive environment with their grade-level peers. My kids are awesome, motivated, and determined, and I know they'll be able to achieve their goals this year if we have access to this content.
