Many of my students struggle with literacy. For some, this is the result of personal reading histories fraught with adversity; for others, this is the result of limited access to relatable literature; and for others still, this is the result of feeling deprived of choice. Through the creation of a classroom library proliferated with high-interest fiction and nonfiction reading choices, we will be able to expand our ELA experience beyond the one-size-fits-all classroom novel and offer students truly individualized reading opportunities. The pride a student feels when they finish reading a great book can have a lasting and powerful impression. Unfortunately, some of our students have not experienced this feeling for a long time. By donating to our project, you will be providing these students with a renewed opportunity to become lifelong readers.
