Children will use the materials in my first grade classroom to think about, talk about, and manipulate many ways to make sense of things and learn from each other. It is through social interaction that Lev Vygotsky said children learn. I want to offer children time to play in my classroom and use high-quality materials that encourage them to learn. Working together they will think about other children's ideas and perspectives on how things go together and make sense and incorporate that into their learning. Through puppet shows children will explore words and try new ideas on how to present themselves. Through using a sand table children will learn to create, design, and problem solve all while enjoying a childhood favorite sensory material. The sand table is versatile too as it can be used as a water exploration table. In this they can explore science theories of sink or float and pipe building. Finally through reading games and manipulatives they will be talking through their sounds and comprehension all while engaged in a fun learning environment that is specifically designed to their development level.
