My students attend a large (nearly 1,000) public school in New York. They are in 6, 7, & 8th grades (ages 11-14). They come from a diverse variety of background and ethnicities. Many students do not have the opportunity to attend art classes outside of school and have requested a ceramics club so they can learn about sculpture and clay after school without any cost to them. In addition, students take art for only half of the year in 6th and 7th grade. Students do not take art in 8th grade. This program will provide ALL INTERESTED STUDENTS the opportunity to create two works of art even if they cannot take art classes during the regular school day.
