My 26 kindergarten students attend a local public elementary school. The elementary school has 600 students across 6 grades (K-5.) My students love computers and anything involving technology; however, with the budget cuts that are affecting all public schools in California, the school simply does not have the funds to equip the classroom with that technology. The children are curious, creative and ready for challenges. We’ve had a parent come in with a laptop and work with the children on age appropriate applications and the children are energized and excited. They want to continue to learn. I think it is important to support this desire, as they will definitely need to be skilled in the use of technology as they move into higher grades and eventually out into the workforce. I’m also excited we have so many competent parents who want to contribute to our classroom by helping the children with technology.
