My special needs students attend a struggling New York City school. They come to school every day looking for structure, support, love and although they would never admit it, an education. On average my students are 3-4 years behind in reading, which has a significant impact on their learning in all of their classes. Many of my students are overage and are ashamed to read books on their reading level, these books appeal to their interest and support their reading development.
