The items I have chosen have ways to help the children calm down when they don't know how to process the emotions that they are having. The worry plaque with help the students to give their worries away before they even walk into the classroom. I am planning on hanging that by my classroom door so the students can touch it when they come into the room. The coloring books I have asked for will help to refocus them when they are acting out. One way to "displace nervous energy," according to mental health professional Stefanie Juliano, is to allow students to use standing desks, sit on exercise balls or even work on the floor. She also suggests creating a quiet, serene corner by adding a beanbag chair, relaxing pictures and positive sayings. I have tried to choose items that will create a safe, comfortable space inside our classroom in order to give my students a space to calm down and relax in order to do better work in school.
