Teaching in an inclusive classroom means being able to accommodate students who have needs outside the traditional model. The aim is to improve academic achievement through engagement. Engagement will be a byproduct of convenient, flexible seating. Many of my students would prefer to stand or require more movement than others. Additional seating options like standing desks and stack stools will promote rich, lively discussion in my English Language Arts classes. Desk Easels will make brainstorming within the various groups more seamless during debates, deliberations, and Socratic Seminars. These small changes will make a big difference in our 83 minute blocks to achieve our goal to help students communicate authentically.
