Since my students are 1st-3rd graders, they learn the best through their hands. They love being able to manipulate different objects to aid in their understanding of math concepts! I have seen many a "light bulb" moment through the use of manipulatives! My students absolutely love Science and learning about the whys and hows of what makes our world special! Two of their favorite areas of study is the Animal Kingdom and Earth Science! Part of our program involves teaching research techniques for all ages. I always have students who will choose to complete a writing project by researching an animal that we have studied. I have one student who struggles with reading and doesn't like to read, but when I invite them to learn about an animal, they come rushing over and will work really hard on their reading, because they are learning about animals.
