My hope is to give my new first graders the opportunity to choose how they learn best. While I think the traditional setting of desks and chairs is good for some, I would like to give my students the option to choose other ways to be comfortable, cozy and ENGAGED in a way that works best for them and their little brains. Much of the research I have read on flexible seating states that when students move around in a classroom, they are more engaged and can better anchor new information. I have carefully selected a variety of items that I think will appeal to my little learners and cultivate some excitement and pride. I want them to know that I will do whatever it takes to help them be successful.
