I am super excited about introducing my students to the talented Andy Warhol and his contributions to the Pop Art genre. The materials and supplies that I have requested will help my students to create their own rendition of Pop Art using their favorite candy as a reference. To begin I will introduce the students to the artist, Andy Warhol, and we will discuss and look at his various works of art. We will talk about Pop Art and how it was meant to focus on popular culture and things that many people are familiar with. Since my students are elementary students I want them to think about their favorite candy. I believe that it is important for students to be able to make decisions and choose from a variety of materials in order to create their own personal artwork. The donations provided will give my students the ability to choose and work with various media, thus assisting in their critical thinking skills. Students have to be able to know and understand how to use various art materials in a way that works best for them and their art. I will guide students on how to properly use the materials, but I want them to be able to think about how the materials are used and ask themselves: what colors work best with each other, do I apply sharpie before or after I paint, and/or should I only use watercolor paints, tempera paint, or both? The best way for students to start to think about these types of questions is to have them learn about the different types of paint, their colors and how they work together and explore.
