As a first-year teacher, I need help with providing my second grade students with a comfy reading corner that will encourage a life-long love of reading. My classroom is practically empty and without a single book. This means I will need financial support in excess of what I will be able to invest personally. All students need and deserve a comfortable print-rich environment that is conducive to promoting an increase in student engagement and academic achievement. I will be investing in comfy furniture, books bins, plush reading buddies, and a variety of leveled books to pique my students' interests. Students will be visiting the reading area daily for independent reading time and to peruse and select titles to take home for additional practice. With your help and a matching donation from Lakeshore Learning, I will be able to reach my goal of providing this opportunity for my first class of second graders (and many future classes).
