Flexible seating will give preschoolers choices as to where to sit. Making choices leads to autonomy and independence. These different seats will allow them to wiggle during small group instruction. Young children like to fidget! They actually NEED to move. Traditional classrooms furniture forces them to sit still for the majority of the day. Flexible seating promotes good posture and the increased ability to focus on learning letters, numbers, shapes, colors and so much more! Picture your 4 year old actually illustrating and writing his own stories at a table, while sitting on a ball. There is nothing that limits us but our own lack of imagination. Lastly, my students come from low-income families. They may not be given many choices or have colorful surroundings. These special seats will brighten up my poor old classroom!
