My students are engaging and exciting third graders who are learning every day at a charter school in Indiana. Their favorite part of the day is reading centers where they are able to work with texts picked out specifically for them and discuss these texts in their "college team" which is a reading level based group. The opportunity to work with these texts allows my students to focus on literary ideas and their imagination rather than the television that permeates their lives. It also allows my students to escape some of the other more difficult things they have to deal with regularly.
