Students at this age focus on learning new math skills by performing hands-on activities. Manipulatives, games, and displayed explanations of the skills being learned provides the students with what today's visual learners need to grasp the concepts at hand. Fractions learned through gameplay, geometry taught with rubber band manipulative pegboards, and graphing practiced with x- y-coordinate dry erase boards allows the student to excel at learning. Math is fun! Getting the students excited about math is only half the battle. Providing them with an easier way to understand the skills being taught allows them to realize that they can excel in math.
