My students have diverse needs and they are often placed in large classes due to the size of the school. I am part of a group of teachers who are being trained to use technology to differentiate instruction. What does that mean? Ideally, the students will rotate through stations in the classroom and when they are at the computer station, they will be able to access material that will help them master understanding in a manner that is most suited to their needs. Eventually, a student would use the Chromebook to choose among reading passages, videos, and slides in order to grasp a science concept and then contribute to a class discussion or show their understanding using the Seesaw application. It is empowering for kids to have choices in how to meet a goal, and that is what is so exciting about blended learning. After some time on the Chromebook, each student would then move on to either working in a small group with me or working on a collaborative project with their peers. This model of learning provides kids with more ways to be successful, emphasizes collaboration, and allows them to move around the classroom in an organized way. I hope to have a number of material choices at varying reading/language levels stored on the computer to kids access material that they can understand.
