When I was sitting down to think about ways to improve my classroom climate and community, the first thing that came to mind was to make our learning a more active experience. Kids are not made to sit in one place for long periods of time, and unfortunately that is often what we ask of them in a school setting. I want to create more movement and student choice in my classroom this upcoming year. Active education is more engaging and meaningful, especially for our littlest learners. The supplies in my list have been proven to be particularly beneficial for students with Autism and ADHD. The floor mats will allow students to take their learning anywhere in the room, encouraging them to take charge of their own learning. The fidget bands will be for the times when they need to be at their seat, while still allowing them to move their bodies in a non-distracting way. The trampoline will serve as a great reward for positive behavior, as well as a way for students to calm themselves down or let out extra pent up energy. Help me bring more fun, energy, movement, and meaningful learning experiences to my classroom this year.
