As someone who did not have a strong foundation for literacy as a young child, my goal as a teacher is to instill a love of reading for my students. I see the need for students to discover a love of reading. My students attend a Title I school in Ohio. I have purchased almost all of the books in the small classroom library. It is important for my students to have a variety of books to choose from. My students have shown me how a love of reading can change a students' life. I have seen their faces light up and their excitement when they read a choice book. I have seen a student enter my room and appear to hate school, but then they discover an awesome book that changes their mind. I see their attention when I read aloud to them in an interactive way. Books are extremely important in first grade and I love to let my students read for fun every day.
