Before I was a teacher, I was a Children's Librarian, so fostering a love of reading is extremely important to me. I've also seen the impact diverse books can make on a child's motivation to read. This project is intended to provide my students with increased access to such books. Students will be able to check the books out and take them home much like their school library books. The books will also be used to compliment reading and ELA instruction. It is important that students see themselves reflected in the books they read. These books will give my students more mirrors that reflect their own experiences, and more windows into other cultural experiences. It is my hope that this will help grow them into even more culturally aware, confident children. The classroom library is intended to compliment my students' school library experience by offering more variety and more frequent access. I have chosen these books based on reviews, demographic needs, reading level, and appeal to the age group.
