Hello! I am a Kindergarten teacher and I get to spend my days 22 of the coolest and sweetest human beings. In Kindergarten, in addition to growing our brains and learning foundational academic skills, we are also learning how to be amazing and kind people. This year, I have learned that the most relevant and beneficial way to do this is through books. We are requesting social and life skills books my students need to be successful through age appropriate and engaging read alouds.  My kids LOVE books and I regularly see them applying the lessons they learn through books to situations they encounter daily in their 5 year old world. The social and emotional scenarios they encounter in books cross over into their real lives. Encountering and talking through these problems in the context of a book gives them the skills they need to apply those problem solving and coping skills in their own lives. Reading about it in a book and discussing it gives them a safe place to problem solve and talk about the best way to handle it with other scholars and with the teacher before they encounter them in the classroom. The books I have chosen for this project relate to situations I see my students encounter daily and see a need for them to grow their social emotional tool box in. I would love to help mold my students into kind, balanced, and problem solving people. The skills they build in Kindergarten will be beneficial to them for the rest of their lives!
