Each year I have many students coming to middle school reading two or three years below grade level. I have not had a good supply of books at these lower levels for my students to choose from for their independent reading. These struggling readers often "fake" read by choosing books that are too difficult for them to comprehend because of the limited "just right" books currently available in my classroom library. The materials requested in this project will give those struggling readers access to a greater selection of "just-right" level books and audio books to help engage them as readers and build their confidence and reading stamina. This will help narrow the gap between their reading level and grade level expectations, improving their chances of success as they move through middle school and on to high school.
