As a teacher of students with special needs, many of my students face attention challenges making it difficult for them to sit in a traditional chair for extended periods of time within the self-contained classroom. Having a wobble chair, ball chair, or wobble cushion will aid in their attention and focus to a lesson. Many flexible seating options stimulate students’ sense of touch and focus. This type of stimulation can help children focus and process information. Sensory input is especially helpful for students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism spectrum disorder. A fidget object such as sensory beads or slime is becoming an increasingly popular choice for use in the classroom because it can help a student focus, absorb more information, self-regulate, and provide a calming influence.
