As my students grow up on a reservation, their exposure to real world issues are limited. Through these books the students will be able to explore identity and dual consciousness and how they can make connections to their own life. The students will use these books in literature circles. Identity is confusing for middle school students, but with these books, my students will be able to explore identity and find their own in the process. Each student is unique and remarkable and they need to experience diversity in a new light in comparison to themselves. These books will be the door to exploration and a changed view of the world. I plan to use them as a way to have my students become an advocate for their culture and not be afraid to venture into the world while being different. These books will help my students gain a voice for their people.
