My projects require them to write code for microprocessors and build physical devices from cardboard boxes, paper, popsicle sticks, and other supplies. Some of the projects have students create secured lockers, interactive art, outdoor safety, or pet food dispensers. It brings such joy to watch them brainstorm, plan, and build their creations. My students would agree that their projects are both interesting and challenging and require them to stretch their creativity. These projects require a large amount of space in order for teams of 2 to 3 students to work together. Students don’t even realize that they are learning to communicate and collaborate, important life skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. My classroom is set up as a traditional computer lab, with desks only large enough for their computers. Small table sets would be the perfect way for them to do their planning, construction, and testing of their hands-on projects.
