New additions to our classroom library will support the reading and writing curriculum by providing teacher mentor texts and leveled reading materials. The addition of poetry books will expose students to new ways of self-expression, help them to make inferences, and draw conclusions about how language creates imagery. From Robert Frost to Maya Angelou and Emily Dickinson to Langston Hughes – poetry is a part of history and the language of poetry makes us more empathetic human beings. The poetry anthologies are intended to provide diverse insights and a window into others' experiences to help them understand the perspectives of different people.
