My students need more flexible/comfortable seating options to enhance their academic engagement and to simply help them enjoy their time at school. Studies show that students learn better when they are physically active and comfortable. Some of the seating options that will be provided with this project are bean bag chairs, wobble stools, and exercise balls. All of these options will give my students the opportunity to sit comfortably and move while they are learning. One of my bean bags will be an important component of the classroom's "safe place." The safe place is where students can go to regain calm when they are upset. The enveloping feeling of the bean bag chair will help them feel safe as they practice active calming techniques. The other bean bag chair will provide a welcoming option for buddy reading in the library. This project would significantly help my students stay engaged in their learning throughout the day. I am excited to provide my children with a welcoming and comfortable home away from home.
