In this outdoor classroom, children will be able to learn by using their five senses. They will learn and internalize the concepts taught in their science curriculum. Children will assume an active role in caring for this outdoor learning space. They will be able to see, to hear, to touch and to smell in this space which is not in the confines of a building. With a new sand and water table, children will be able to experience sand and water. Eventually, they will be able to garden and care for an outdoor learning area. We will investigate life processes in this setting and enable plants to grow when we build our outdoor garden plots. In this setting, children who have never had the opportunity to go to the beach to play in the sand and water will be able to do so in this outdoor classroom in our own school's courtyard. We will also be able to watch the metamorphosis of a butterfly using the binoculars to see what the life cycle cards illustrate. An outdoor classroom will enable the content to come to life!
