When my students come to the carpet, they bring their white boards and markers. On these, they will interact with the problem sets on the board, but more importantly they will interact with each other. These supplies will allow them to show their work and collaborate to find the solution. We only absorb 20% of what we are taught, but we retain 80% of what we teach. These supplies will allow students to facilitate their own learning. Students will make their voices heard by contributing to our classroom agreements, universal anchor charts, and classroom tracker. The chart paper will allow us to create a space in which students feel like valued members of their communities.
