A crucial part of the kindergarten experience is the freedom to explore books of all kind. It is so important for students to not only see themselves in stories and understand that people like them can be the hero, but also see the diverse characters that are different from them that are the focus of a story. I hope for my classroom library of picture books suits a range of reading levels, content areas, and cultures, so that students are constantly diving into a new experience with each book. Read alouds are integrated into the daily schedule and at the beginning of the year, having books to introduce socio-emotional development, rules and, procedures, is important for classroom management and building community through books.
