The goal of the Peace Room is to create an environment where ALL students feel safe and supported. Every item on this list has been carefully selected to meet a basic need or create a sensory experience that facilitates emotional regulation. My approach to school counseling is grounded in brain science, restorative practice, and trauma-informed care. While some items on this list (uniforms, sanitary items, etc.) are designed to meet the basic needs of students, others (lighting, seating, manipulatives, etc.) are intended to provide a calming sensory experience. As simple as it seems, providing an escape from harsh lighting and stiff seating can make a world of difference for students who struggle to feel comfortable in the school environment. Similarly, a productive outlet for negative emotion can make all the difference for students whose unnamed feelings tend to manifest in physical forms. By supporting this project, you will help create an environment where students' physiological, safety, and love/belonging needs are satisfied. No matter what they're experiencing, the Peace Room is a place students can go to find love and support.
