It is important to give students excitement and comfort before they begin to read so that they have a safe, warm, happy feeling during the reading process. This increases the excitement that the kids feel in settling in with a new book that they choose. Flexible seating can be a fun and comfortable way to inspire students to spend more time reading. Reading practice is essential to improvement and progress in ability. Each student is required to do at least 20 minutes per day of independent reading, per the new TEKS. If it must be done, let us make it more pleasant for them, so that they will actually feel the enjoyment. The writing center will be a fount of creativity. The students will have various types of writing instruments, and papers along with an extensive collection of writing activities that will allow students to choose what they want to write about. This gives them more control and more of a sense of Independence.
