Our single-use sharpeners do not get the job done. They break easily. Cuts in funding hit supplies first. I have changed the blades in an old sharpener before but it is so old that blades are no longer available. Students will no longer have to wait for the teacher to have time to find another sharpener in another classroom. It is frustrating for students to not have a sharp pencil available upon need. Having pre-made and skill related mats for phonics instruction practice cuts down on paper usage. Phonics is key to help my students unravel word reading.
